ਯੂਹੰਨਾ 3: 1-10 ਨਿ International ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਵਰਜ਼ਨ (ਐਨਆਈਵੀ)
ਯਿਸੂ ਨਿਕੋਦੇਮੁਸ ਸਿਖਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
3 ਨਿਕੋਦੇਮੁਸ ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਫ਼ਰੀਸੀ ਸੀ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ਯਹੂਦੀ ਸ਼ਾਸਕ ਸਭਾ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਸੀ। 2 ਉਹ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਯਿਸੂ ਕੋਲ ਆਇਆ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਹਾ, “ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ, ਅਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ਕ ਹੋ ਜੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ। ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਉਹ ਕਰਿਸ਼ਮੇ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ ਤਾਂ ਜੇ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ”
3 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਖ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਦ ਤੱਕ ਉਹ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਜਨਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੈਂਦੇ। [a]”
4 “ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਬੁੱ areਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ?” ਨਿਕੋਡੇਮਸ ਨੇ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ. “ਯਕੀਨਨ ਉਹ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਕੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ!”
5 ਯਿਸੂ ਨੇ ਜਵਾਬ ਦਿੱਤਾ, “ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸੱਚ ਦੱਸਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੇ ਰਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਜਿੰਨਾ ਚਿਰ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਏ ਹੋਣ। 6 ਸ਼ਰੀਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਆਤਮਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਜਨਮ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। 7 ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ, ‘ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ [c] ਮੁੜ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।’ 8 ਹਵਾ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਵੀ ਚਾਹੇ ਵਗਦੀ ਹੈ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਆਵਾਜ਼ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹੋ, ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦੇ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਿੱਥੋਂ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਕਿੱਥੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ. ਇਸ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਆਤਮਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਹੈ। ”[d]

Holy God beyond us,
You create and sustain all things, but only by the power of self-giving love.
We celebrate your creativity this morning, the risk of imagination you demonstrated in making such wild diversity in the world: the rhinoceros and the dragonfly, the Himalayas and the spider’s web, the earthworm and the human brain. There is mystery and joy at the heart of your creation. Holy God beyond us, we celebrate the mystery and joy which is found even in us, your people gathered here to worship and praise you.
Son of God beside us,
You never leave us comfortless.
Always you walk with us; neither too far ahead nor a step behind.
And you teach us the love songs of the kingdom.
Bless, we pray, those who have not noticed that you are there beside them, or who have chosen to ignore you. Bless those who are dying of loneliness and those who need you so desperately.
In the quiet we name those on our hearts, for all who have lost loved ones to Covid-19, all who have the virus, all who have to care for people with the virus, for the family of George Floyd and all our friends and families on our prayer list. Son of God beside us, provide us with your healing touch.
Holy Spirit within us,
Always seeking to infiltrate our lives with peace and strength;
Always you are trying to give us more of yourself.
And yet we often feel empty and afraid, and so does the community of nations.
Fill, we pray, all those dark, dank places of this world with your warm life. We pray especially for USA, our own country and their respective governments.
Be with all who suffer injustice, racism, who are deprived of their human rights.
Forgive our impatience; forgive me when I utter these words ‘how long?’
Pray for the safety brothers and sisters here and in USA who are protesting/demonstrating – time has come for change. We need change. Change must come to enable us to survive.
Holy Spirit within us, grant us with your peace.
O God beyond us, give us faith.
O Christ beside us, give us peace.
O Spirit within us, give us life.

John 3v1-10
Nicodemus was a Pharisee, representing those Jews of high office who thought Jesus is maybe ok but had problems with some of his words and actions. Jesus was regarded as a dangerous person by this time because he had cleared out the temple of people who didn’t worship God but worshipped money. “My house has become a den of robbers” he said. Do we ensure our churches, our homes, worship God rather than money?
Nicodemus has attitude. "We know" he says. Pharisees-speak, the royal "we". He is an academic interest in Jesus. Detached. "How can a grown man be born a second time?" he sneers. "Don't you understand these things?" responds Jesus.
The way to stand approved before God requires a spiritual rebirth by the power of God. It is something only God can do for us. It is ongoing. We keep being born again. Eternal life is a gift of God and is given to everyone who believes in Jesus, even to a terrorist or a paedophile.
The early church as recorded in Acts 2 has received the Spirit. The result is that many people were converted. But then they did something very profound. They began to come together as a people, Gods people, worshipping, praying, sharing their food and belongings. They gave up materialism. You can always tell where someone’s heart is by where they put their things and their money!
And the church grew.
Remember this wasn’t against a backdrop of a peaceful society. The Romans were killing people, especially Christians. This was persecution and occupation. And the church kept growing.
We have persecution today and we are at a crossroads. We have a president in the United States who thinks murdering black people is ok. Because they are seen as lesser. We have a prime minister in the UK who has not condemned this attitude and has called black people piccaninnies with water melon smiles. Because they are seen as lesser. In the meantime the UK has the worst death rate from Covid 19 which is called a success. Thousands of people have died because they are seen as lesser.
Are we detached and complacent? Passive.
Are we like Nicodemus academic, almost forensic about our engagement with these terrible events? What would Jesus do? What does God think?
If we are not on our feet and actively engaging in protest I believe worse terrors will follow. How many deaths does it take before we say enough is enough!
Now is a time for white people to engage in their complicity in racism and black people to say Enough is enough.
Slavery happened because white people said nothing and twelve million black people were uprooted from their homes in Africa to become slaves to white people in the US, Caribbean and South America. The Holocaust happened because good people did nothing and 6 million people perished.
Don’t point the finger at Trump and do nothing. Don’t moan about the government and do nothing. Our passivity is too costly and costs lives. We have a voice that can challenge, we have hands that can write letters, we have feet that can march and vote.
Don’t think because you live in a white enclave this doesn’t affect you. Or that we are powerless, any of us. Once more I say, do not be tainted by complicity, by passivity. Examine your conscience. Do you consider Black or Asian people to be lesser than you? Do you dislike “foreigners”? Do you sneer at other racial groups? Do you have your money invested in supporting white supremacy?
The early Christians were together. We need to be together. To pray. To share. To worship. To act. To be brave. We need to be Gods Activists. For the sake of our families, our friends, our neighbours, our country, our future, our world. For Christ's sake. Amen

ਯਾਦ ਰੱਖੋ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਾਂਤਮਈ ਸਮਾਜ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ. ਰੋਮੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ, ਖ਼ਾਸਕਰ ਇਸਾਈਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਅਤਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਕਿੱਤਾ ਸੀ. ਅਤੇ ਚਰਚ ਵਧਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ

ਹੁਣ ਇੱਕ ਵੇਲਾ ਹੈ ਗੋਰੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਜਾਤੀਵਾਦ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਲੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣੀ ਗੁੰਝਲਦਾਰਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਲਈ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਹੈ.
