John 20 v 1-10
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” 3 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) 10 Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.

On the night he was betrayed, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it saying: "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to re-member me. John 20 v 1-18
1. The text
The scene in John's gospel is set when it was still dark, just before dawn. John focuses on Mary. Early in the morning would mean between 3 and 6 am and it would still be dark. Mary having gone to the tomb to anoint the body, finds the body gone and runs to Peter to tell him “they have taken the body and we don't know where they have buried him”.
Peter, John and Mary, they go back to the tomb. John ran on ahead. The tomb was built into the ground with a low door so that they had to bend down, and then look down into it. Peter sees lying there, strips of linen, shroud-like sheets, the linen grave-cloths. The burial cloth - is a small towel used to wipe the face, and it was not lying with the sheets but was folded up beside the linen. (we note the details)
John saw it all and believed.
2. The 3 facts
1. Jesus lived
We know that Jesus lived because Josephus the Roman historian writes about him in his histories, Antiquities of the Jews, written around 93–94 AD. He writes about 'Jesus' in Book 20, Chapter 9: and describes him as "Jesus, who was called Christ"
2. Jesus died
We know that Jesus died and was crucified because the Roman historian Tacitus, in his Annals (written ca. AD 116), book 15, chapter 44. refers to 'Christus' and his execution by Pontius Pilate.
3. Nobody has ever found his body.
Despite so many people knowing what happened, the Roman guards, the disciples, the Jewish leaders, his followersnobody ever found a body or even remains like bones or a grave. Bodies don’t just disappear.
3. What does Jesus say about his death
4 readings
In one of the parables Jesus tells, that the son is taken, thrown out and then killed. One explanation of the parable is that Israel is the vineyard, Israel's religious leaders are the farmers, and the servants are the prophets and the son is Jesus. Mark 12:1-12, Jesus is implying that the "son" of the vineyard owner i.e., himself will be murdered.
5. And what did Jesus say about his resurrection?
And yet everyone was surprised that he was resurrected! Death is final?! The women, the disciples and the Emmaus travelers there is no hint that they understood what he was talking about, that resurrection was on the cards, anticipated. At the beginning of Luke’s gospel, Luke the doctor, promised Theophilus that he was writing an eye witness account of what happened. (Luke 1:1-4). The women did not go to the tomb expecting resurrection, because they took spices to anoint his decaying body. The stone in front of the tomb was very heavy and in Mark 16:3 the women had debated how they would get the heavy stone moved.
In Luke the angels ask them to recall the promise Jesus made to them in Galilee. At first the disciples regard the women as hysterical, telling an idle tale. Leros, a delirious stories told by the very sick. Jesus says "Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
Old Testament hope is realised.
First, the Christ had to suffer. Jesus had predicted this and it was in the Old Testament prophecies.
Second, the Messiah was raised from the dead. Third his message will be preached throughout the world. The message is for all nations, and the preaching will start in Jerusalem. Jesus came to offer hope. From the opening words of Jesus birth to the end of the Gospels, Jesus brings God's promise and blessing in fulfillment of God's design. What he did was necessary. What he did brought a new era, as God moved from a time of promise to the beginning of realised promise. Jesus is to bring more, as Acts makes especially clear, but the corner has been turned in God's plan.
The disciples head to Jerusalem with hearts filled with joy, gratitude and worship. The disciples' response is to await the blessing. They journey to Jerusalem, obeying the Lord's command to wait for the Spirit there. The resurrection has strengthened these disciples' relationship with God. Their sense of privilege at being involved in God's plan did not waver even years later, when persecution and rejection of their message became strong. They loved their enemy and took the message to the world. Now it is the story of what God can do through his people. That message is not one of words alone but of life, love and light. The message is both proclaimed and lived out in a world going in the wrong direction. "Why do you look for the living among the dead?"
6. Jesus as Saviour
In some way that we may not be able to fully understand what happened and why. Jesus knew that he had to die to save us, each one of us. I trained as a life saver. Jesus is the supreme life saver. If you are in trouble turn to him. Always. Many of us don’t know what it is like to be close to death and to be saved. But some people do! Jesus is the supreme life saver. Whether we have relationship troubles, we are sick, we have financial troubles, we are homeless or are stateless, Jesus is the person to turn to. He’s been there and done it and got the t shirt. Don’t trust me, trust the one who was raised from the dead, and trust his God. Jesus is risen Alleluia! The women were met with an empty tomb. So are we!

ਯੂਹੰਨਾ ਅੱਗੇ ਚਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ. ਕਬਰ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਨੀਵੇਂ ਦਰਵਾਜ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਮੋੜਨਾ ਪਏ, ਅਤੇ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਵੇਖਣਾ ਪਏ.

1. ਯਿਸੂ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਸੀ
ਅਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਯਿਸੂ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਰੋਮਨ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਾਰ ਜੋਸਫ਼ਸ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਹਿਸਟਰੀ, ਯਹੂਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਤੱਤਵ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 93-94 ਈ. ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਹ 20 ਵੇਂ ਅਧਿਆਇ 9 ਵਿਚ ‘ਯਿਸੂ’ ਬਾਰੇ ਲਿਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ “ਯਿਸੂ, ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਸੀਹ ਕਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਸੀ” ਵਜੋਂ ਦਰਸਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ
2. ਯਿਸੂ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਹੋ ਗਈ

ਲੂਕਾ ਦੀ ਖੁਸ਼ਖਬਰੀ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਵਿਚ, ਲੂਕਾ ਡਾਕਟਰ ਨੇ ਥੀਓਫਿਲਸ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਅਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਜੋ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਚਸ਼ਮਦੀਦ ਗਵਾਹ ਲਿਖ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ. (ਲੂਕਾ 1: 1-4).

ਤੀਜਾ ਉਸਦੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੁਨੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ. ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਕੌਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਯਰੂਸ਼ਲਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ.
